I always like to form my own opinion when it comes to grading.
As consequence, I always like to examine a coin in hand before making up my mind in how to value it.

So, I usually ignore that slab grading.

If others disagree with me, that's OK. Perhaps their judgement is better than mine anyway, I will accept that, without questioning THEIR judgement.
I might think:
"Umm, perhaps they are right, and I am a little wide of the mark.", but it won't damage my confidence in grading.

I can't really say in this case,
would have liked more detailed pictures.

If we (me to), accept MS63, then you did OK.

The Quarter Eagle as a denomination, is not scarce.

Don't fall in love with gold; it is just another metal used for coinage.

SsuperDave: I thought that may come up !

The only Greek gold coin (came from London in 1982), in my collection, all of the rest of the ancient Greek part of my collection are silver, includes an Athenian Owl tetradrachm, Athena wearing oak leaves commemoration the twin victories of Salamis (sea battle) and Marathon (land battle) where the Persians no longer threatened Greece.

The gold stater is what Alexander paid his troops when he went on the rampage across southern Asia, also a famous coin. The most common of all gold coins in the ancient world.

Thought twice what I post here, as irrelevant to the thread.

If you are comfortable with what you paid, the grade, and the eye appeal then you did great!

Thank you guys for all the info. I am aware its not that rare of an item, but I love it. Although I believe the 1927 mintage was one of the lowest. Any one ever seed a 1911?

1911d is the rarest followed by 1914 (not d). And the 1914d is the third rarest. While I've seen a 1911d I doubt I'll ever own one even though I collect this series mostly. Hard to spend $5000 on an ugly low grade coin.
