Someone who was board with a pick started punching those holes on the coin.as said above, now it is only worth the melt value.

True, but at least you are looking! Keep looking and keep asking questions.

Looks like an Ice Pick or nail punch in someone's hand who didn't like JFK, personal attack.

It is sad to even consider that, but you could be right.

I have read that during this time period that the Mint Marks were hand punched. Is it somehow possible a disgruntled employee of the Denver Mint back around the terrible assassination of in my opinion our last real, an greatest President.Took his or her opportunity to forgive the pun,"Make his Mark" on history also by defacing Mr. Kennedy's Bust on the obverse of the first year commemorating his legacy as our great Commander and Chief.Possible?

That's quite a story Bama78 but highly unlikely.

The mint marks were hand punched into the die, not the coin.

Even if by some obscure chance you are right, it would have
had to be punched after the coin was minted so it would still be PMD

My guess is someone either was testing out at letter punch (the kind every old guy used to keep to stamp their initials on their tools) or like someone said, really disliked JFK. Still worth a couple bucks in silver anyways.

Possible?
Almost anything is possible, but in this case it is highly improbable. Regardless, as indicated above it happened after the coin was struck and therefore PSD.

Looks like it was done with a Phillips screwdriver.

As said it had to have been done after the coin was struck so no matter who did it or where it is still PSD. And if a D punch had bee used the marks would BE D's not just "D" shaped.
