I just Pm'd Mike Diamond and sent him the link to your post Wyko. He'll probably get back to me and you later in the day today. It is a very interesting error. I will be excited to see what Mike diamond has to say! :)

This is Tiffany (Wyko), Wondering if you had you heard anything for Mike Diamond on the 1944 Lincoln Cent "error"?

Wyko, unfortunately I haven't heard back from him at all. Not sure if he'll get back to me, but we seriously need Coop or some other coin expert to determine the final verdict.

Wyko (Tiffany)! What you have is a lamination flaw. Because of impurities in the copper alloy and/or improper mixing of the elements, the planchet has weaknesses, like fault lines. Below, the red arrow points to the end that has begun to noticeably lift/peel from the surrounding metal. The green arrow points to the termination point on the other end. You can see the lines of minor separation that run between those two across Lincoln's face: Cents from the '40s seem to be prime for lamination errors. This is considered a planchet flaw and also a Mint error. I bet you could use some manipulation to peel off that whole area between the arrows. I wouldn't recommend trying it, though.

It looks like the peel came loose on the temple area of the bust flattening where it is now, after the strike. Thus the reason it was not struck onto the motto. No die chip. Just a partial peel from the lamination.

Quote: So basically, not desirable? Far from it! I love lamination errors and it would definitely be a keeper for me. Thanks, coop, for noticing that it is a post-strike folded-over lamination peel. That makes much more sense for how it looks. These do have value above face, possibly around $3-$5 to the right buyer.
