What that means is: If they are genuine coins and are not counterfeit.perhaps if you can, post a close up images for better viewing. But that was a sweet deal you got, I hope they are real deals!

That's awesome. Like back in the 1880's in a saloon someone pays for everyone's drinks and tosses a dollar. Cool story

Do you ever wonder how coins like this come back into circulation?

Well, here is one example....

About two or three years ago I responded to a Craigslist add. The seller had a roll of silver quarters for sale. I offered 95% of spot for the roll and she was very happy since all the other offers were much less. When I met this person, a young woman, I asked if she had anything else to sell? She said that there was more, but that she wasn't ready to sell anything more than the single roll of quarters. I asked her to let me know when she was ready.

At that point... out of curiosity... I asked where she got them... any chance they were the coins a those of a deceased family member ... or something like that?

She said that she worked at a bank in a small town to the north of me and that a very old lady had brought in a several boxes of old coins to deposit them. Needless to say I was stunned. I asked if there were any coins better than this? She said there were. I asked in amazement ... are there any solver dollars? She said ... yes, and some even nicer coins! I said ... do you mean gold coins? She said yes... several old gold coins too.

That's all I ever heard from her. I suspect the old lady's husband was a collector and that she was probably suffering from dementia or something similar. It's sad that nobody at the bank was willing to point out that the coins were worth several times more than face value.

Amazing how often little old ladies are responsible for bringing rare things back into the world. I'm a musician and I can't tell you how many times rare instruments (sometimes referred to as "attic horns") are either brought to a dealer to sell or are placed in the classifieds... by little old ladies.
