It looks well struck with no lustre remaining so AU53 for me.

If it was recently graded 50, otherwise a 53/55 depending on the luster. Quote:

What is happening with PCGS these days?  RGG* I also think AU55 is the correct grading for this coin. No luster suggests a light cleaning at some time in the past, but long since acquiring a nice re patination. A really desirable coin, anyway. *Random Grade Generator. |

There is the possibility that the older gradings may have damaged the PCGS reputation somewhat.

It's just annoying people and they're going to start using others if it keeps up, but the more telling part is NGC did it as well around the same time just not to the same extent. It really seems like someone convinced the TPGs to experiment with really conservative grading |

Basebal21, Maybe it was CAC that worked out a deal with the TPG's? If the TPG's grade really conservative then a person would think that they would have a better chance of a green bean (or possible a gold bean). CAC would get more business from the general public (and auction houses) and then the coin value would go up to make it worth while. It's a win-win for everyone, for a while. The problem is after the market is flooded with beans, they would then lose value! |

CAC is trying to discourage submissions to them at the moment with their two price increases to lower their work load. CAC also makes their money buying and selling coins not stickering them. It may be as simple as one of them tried it and the others noticed and followed along. |
