Quote: Low grade $1000 bills will likely become worth less than their face values, imo $1000 notes will never become worth less than their face value because you can always return them to the Bank of Canada for their face value of $1000 when they are demonetized. Of course, if you get an $1000 for $1000 today, the value of it will decline as time goes by because of inflation.

so if they demonetize it that will have no effect on the value of these note.

And there is always the cost of your time and tracked shipping if you don't live near a place that will accept the bill. But, if enough are destroyed, maybe they will come back with some kind of increase in value.

Even if you lived right next door, the bank of Canada doesn't deal with Joe Nobody off the street. I know my lcs won't buy them at face value.

Anyway the 1935 and 37 1000 note and the devils face 1000 note will always be collectible note and will keep their value. The demonetized will perhaps affect the bird serie note and the modified portrait 1954 but for all other 1000 note the value will stay or goes up.

..to CCf Audetnelson.. Just a suggestion, if your going to spend that amount on a note, I would suggest you pick up either a 1935 $10 or $20 dollar note in VF condition, probably be worth more in the long run.

the 10 and the 20 is better investment than the 50 or 100 in the 1935 serie ? a store in my city have a devils face 1000 note for sale and my first idea was to buy that note.

Quote: the 10 and the 20 is better investment than the 50 or 100 in the 1935 serie ? Yes- the $50 & $100 are collected only because ALL 1935 are RARE. They were only released for a span of 2 years. But "SHAFTA9a" was suggesting to put the $4000 you were setting aside for the $1000 towards a 1935 $20 which IMO is a far better investment. AKA as the "Shirley Temple note" the $20 is sought out world wide and, in higher grades, will always sell briskly. You could get (with a little patience ) an original VF+ $20 for about the same amount. If you're really luck- maybe even an EF for that cash. You'll be settling for a lot lower grade of the $50, $100 or $1000 1935's Collectors of high denominations are like collectors of error notes- they're around but they don't always show themselves. I like them too. But if you compare the # of collectors of these type of notes with those who collect higher graded lower denominations - you'll find that collectors who collect lower denominations much more plentiful (thus a larger market for your note down the road).

If you go to the Bank of Canada website you can return bills to them for face value as well as most banks will honor them at this time BTW who is Joe Nobody? :)

I definitely agree with you...Large denominations are harder to sell due to less collectors and I have found that most people are willing to buy a lower denomination from a stranger than they are to buy a $1000 note... And in my opinion buyer from a dealer or auction house you are usually paying a premium to make matters worse...
