@Ocian, first welcome to CCF. Second, the damage to the outer plating on that cent is allowing the zinc core to show through--that is what the gray colored metal is on your coin.

@ocian, yikes that 1951 cent has significant damage and probably not worth more than face value. The brick red color makes me think that it may have been in a fire, but there is plenty of wear and tear as well.

Also, it is a small matter, but best practice is to start a new thread with each new coin that you have--that way you'll maximize eyeballs seeing it (and make it easier for us to find stuff when we go back and look for specific coins or threads). Thx!
