The 1974 (a normal nickel) should weigh 5 grams, but it shows the other one is seriously underweight.

This is an acid job. The perfect centering, lack of a design rim, smaller-than-normal diameter, blurred details on both faces, and a rippled surface in some areas are all obvious red flags.
Error coin writer and researcher.

Thanks Mike. I thought the issue of the distortion on LIBERTY reminded me of that. The lines on the obverse also reminded me of that on a coin I acquired years ago:
1964-Jefferson-Nickel-Error-Or-Damage?
Second one down. I did miss the missing rims and reduced diameter. But we learn/remember a little at a time.
