That's funny coop! I just started to do just that with a plastic 6" ruler!
So it is closer to the 03R. That's the closets match! But I will email these pics to JC to see what he thinks. Once again my friend, you are correct. Thank you

Well I had to look even closer to see that is was not 03. The brain had to figure out how to make the image on the site larger, then used a folded paper to see they were different. (Sound real high tech? NOT)

Awesome find you have there! Very nice Retained Cud! Did you find this for face value?

Good find especially for a 43-S steel cent. I've never found errors on steel cents!

Thank E & V! I got it for less than face value! it was part of the collection that I inherited.

Thank you Mark! Either have I until now and I probably would not have found it if my friend didnt ask me to show him what a steel penny looked like!

You're very welcome Tootallious! That's awesome that it was from a collection you inherited. Was the collection you inherited from your father?

No, it was from my grandfather. All my father left me was memories.

Oh okay. I remember now. It was from your grandfather, not you father. Lol, that was a brain fart right there! I somehow got them mixed up for some reason. :)

That probable Retained Cud is unlisted on cuds-on-coins.com and would be a new listing if JC accepts it. It looks good to me but there is little apparent horizontal movement by the lower rim contact point so there is a chance it would be considered just a rim to rim die crack. Definitely submit it.

Good news! I emailed the pics to JC and this is what he determined.

Hi Jim, I listed it as RCD-1c-1943S-05R.

Thanks,
JC Stevens

I'm very pleased with the outcome Thank you all for helping me with this one
Coop, I always look forward to your expertise!

Edit: I forgot to say, with 108 listed already, how in the heck did mine get listed as number 5? I need to email JC and find out!

He is separating out the listing numbers by mint mark and filling in the missing numbers as he goes. That way all the previously listed coins keep their listing number while new submissions get lower numbers as those get filled in. It was getting to be a bit much to sort through all the P,D,S coins and this has made it much easier to attribute Cuds. JC does a fantastic job!

You're very welcome Tootallious! Another reason why it is always good to check your coins for errors or varieties.
