Coop, you have it exactly right about error + variety not being a good thing. But for this one I'm keeping it for my own collection and I think it's pretty darn neat so all is well. Next I need to find a doubled die on an off center coin.

Very nice find! That's a double whammy since you found a DDR on a Clipped Planchet (Incomplete Planchet). Errers and Varietys.

Thanks! For the full-coin shots I love my little Canon S95 point and shoot. It was a mid/high end pocket cam in its day and now is a very affordable great pocket cam you can grab off ebay for fifty bucks at auction. For the macros I am using an AmScope stereoscope. Sometimes I use the digital imager that sees through it but it is faster and almost as good to just shoot iPhone pics through the lens, which is what I did for this coin. And one day I hope to get images close to what Chase and Tanman are doing. |

Nice ooe Bats, its one strong DDR. I found the 64 D DDR 002 last night and it pales in comparison to your example. I looked at the various sites and don't see any matches either, another discovery coin? |

Cammy I just don't know. New or just without images on an attribution website. This bugger is so strong that I can't believe it hasn't been described yet.

Wanted to update this post. I recently received this coin back from John Wexler and he has it as WDDR-062. Personally I can't make that connection as I am seeing something different on my coin. But that's the final word on it.

I agree that it does not look like WDDR-062. The notching on ONE CENT is completely different.
The die scratch above the T in LIBERTY and the faint clash mark is listed in Stage A of WDDR-062, but the doubling should be the first thing to be matched as it is possible there are multiple dies with similar die markers. I think it may be coincidental it has 2 of the same die markers as there are 8 other markers that either I can't see in the pics or just aren't there on your coin. Wexler says Stage A should have an SW die scratch below the I in UNITED, however, the one in your pics is SE. There should also be a die gouge to the right of the second A in AMERICA in ALL known die states yet your coin doesn't have any.
I can't make the connection either, Keith.

I agree that it does not look like WDDR-062... Do y'all think John would be amenable to justifying his call and/or taking another look..? I'd hate to see this example get mis-filed, especially since it may be a new variation.. Swamp |

I'm sure he would take a second look if a couple folks have looked at it and have questions. The question is what is he seeing that we are missing, and it's a good question. It could be a good learning moment for us or he may find that he just missed it. I will consider emailing him about it after the holidays.
