The point I was trying to get across was that if a coin has deep scratches it renders the coin almost impossible to resell, if you took the 35 to 50 bucks at any show you will find a problem free vf20. Damaged coins except for the really rare dates are hard to move, a problem coin is always a problem

I agree that it is most certainly worth more than face value, but I also agree that a coin with problems like that will be difficult to move, if so wished.  In Memory of Crazyb0 12-26-1951 to 7-27-2020

yes I agree the scratches don't really help the coin for grade or eye appeal but still I think it would be a VF coin

i could easily sell that coin for $40 even if it was holed it would sell

Very nice collection of coins you have Gidjit, I am keeping my one and only 1858 even if damaged. I love the fact that I have a piece of Canadian history in hand regardless of shape but the collector in me was interested in where it would sit on the grade scale.

Enjoy you '58 Roro, scratches (ie character marks) don't matter if you are collecting for the love of it (and without shelling out hundreds $).
While my collection of pre-1858 is aiming for the highest grade I can afford I also have a soft spot for coins that show genuine circulation...
How many times did that Cent pass hands? buying seed, or feed, or a shot of whiskey? True character results in scars, and scars are simply souvenirs of life.

This is definitely a nice example of the 1858 for a collection on a budget.
I started my Large cent collection I was in high school and have an impaired VF in the 1858 spot. I've only just started to collect again (post University, grad school and student loans) and up grading this one is not my priority.
