It would have no bearing on the value of the coin....and by taking it out you'd more then likely damage the coin further.
Leave it in....it makes for an interesting story

malissa, I wouldn't feel guilty about cheery picking in a bin like that at a coin shop. Most coin dealers have one. The price is reasonable to. My coin shop has similar bins at different price ranges. I can get bags of coins (don't get to pick the coins, the bags are pre-made) for 8-10 cents a coin.
Great find on the Drachma!

I have bought coins before that seemed expensive (to me at the time) and then gotten home and looked them up and saw that they were worth 4 or 5 times what I paid. But I have always assumed maybe I am grading too high. I'm learning through this forum that I was actually right and they are worth more and it just surprises me that even a dealer can make a mistake about what they are selling. Though with this dealer I mentioned before he felt that certain coins were "ugly" and therefor less valuable to people. That's usually how I bought a lot of my silver coins, the ones he felt were "ugly" To me its weird, I havent yet seen a coin that I thought was ugly......except of course a lovely xf40 1888 Morgan dollar that my brother in law holed.

lol I wish I could but I have a funny feeling if I tried that I would become the newest paid buyer on the forum. Id spend 20 hours a day sorting through bins and mailing out bags of coins.

well, I think that ultimately fining a good deal depends on the markets in the area and if the dealer really understands what they are selling.

He seems to be a very good dealer that has been selling many years, yet at the same time he had quite a lot of what I consider collectors sets and items. Like uncut rolls of dollar bills and mint sets, and only a few binders of actual unslabbed/uncased coins of more rare values. He had 1 binder that I would pick something out of every weekend that was usually 1800's US coins but even now I am surprised at how much he would undergrade some items (which of course I would buy) I have never made it to a different coins store/or flea market setting yet to really compare his set up to any other. Maybe I just got really lucky with him and should count my blessings. He also did try most weekends to convince me that the error market was going nowhere and I should not waste my 2x2's on anything that seemed odd looking or was an obvious error. He kind of told it to me this way: If I saw a television at the store and all the buttons were labeled wrong at the factory, would I buy it and hide it away because its an error? Kind of silly!

Quote: I wouldn't feel guilty about cheery picking Please help, exactly what is cheery picking? I saw it many times here and know that there is a book about it - but what is it anyway?
