David, I've got the login thing figured out. Now if CCF could block all these pop up ads!

Guess what guys. This is 1983P-1DO-002
1983-P-LMC-Shares-Some-Characteristics-As-WDDR-002
The die scratches from the 'D' are part of what to look for.

Jim: Concentrate more on the hub doubling areas. That is where to look for a doubled die. The STATES and FG area threw others off the track. I know you thought it was MD on the FG (which it is) but you took the hound dogs off the scent when you crossed the river.

Coop, for some reason, this Doubled Die Reverse always gets me everytime for some reason. I always think it's Machine Doubling when it's not. How come I get tricked so much on 1DO-002?

Jim, Coop is correct on this one. I was wrong, and I'm sorry about that.

Thank you Mr. Coop. I'm learning and I think my eye is starting to get on the right track. Once I put the eye and the mind together I'll see more than I have so far for sure. It also helps when you have really good, patient people to help you along.

I agree with you Jim! It's very good, since you have very patient people like me, Coop, Crazyb0, and the other CCF members. Amen to that!

Another FS-802 woo hoo. Great strange variety, Jim did you find it roll searching or cherry picked it? I love looking at the different stages of this one. The MS example I own has great doubling through e pluribus unum. 1983 was a great year except for the Chrysler K Car. How about them Yugos too.

I don't know if this is WDDR-002. I agree the doubling is similar but you only give us two closeup images of the doubling AND the closeups you took are not of the areas where the doubling should be most prominent (UNITED and ONE).

The die scratches do not match the images I've seen of WDDR-002, even the ones Coop posted. I can't find one scratch on your coin that matches Coop's pics. Your coin has east to west scratches below the TA in STATES, WDDR-002 doesn't. WDDR-002 has northwest to southeast scratches above the FG initials, your coin has east to west scratches there.

Looking closer I don't even see the strong notching on the T that Coop's pic shows.

Right now I disagree with this being WDDR-002. I'd like to see better pics of the area where the doubling should be more prominent, maybe I'll be proved wrong.

It seems every post involving WDDR-002 has the forum split on whether the coin is or isn't WDDR-002.

I made two side-by-sides of Jim's coin and Coop's image from PCGS; one normal and one with the die scratches highlighted. Scratches don't seem to line up and the doubling looks a bit off.

I'd still like to see pics of UNITED and ONE from Jim. These differences could be caused by a difference in die state but I just can't find any pics of WDDR-002 with the same die scratches as Jim's coin.

The biggest clue that this is the right die? Note the 'E'? Note the notch on the center tine of the 'E'. It is visible on both coins.

Die scratches on the on the fields flatten fast. Then new die scratches are added. But note the inside of the 'D' on UNITED.The die scratches last a lot longer there. Note they are visible also on both examples. So some die scratches will disappear, but the ones close to the devices stay longer. Sometimes you can see the old/new die scratches close to the devices.

I know. I'm very sorry for that. I just stink at this Doubled Die number.

David, I don't think an apology is needed at all. I think it's great when there is debate. Someone will have the correct answer and after all, this is a learning experience for a novice such as myself.
