Thanks Phil, for posting a better picture of leaf 9 it is easy to pick out once it is known, maybe more will show up with good pictures for everyone to see and know what to look for.

The first picture of the die crack at leaf 5+6 is the coin in this post, the second picture of the die crack at leaf 5+6 is my other coin but the die crack is just starting and can see it faintly on this one.

Thanks for checking Okie. I hope it turns up.

Thanks for the nice photos papeldog. Looks like new die states 2 and 3 for the I4 reverse!

Yes gidjit, these inverted 9 coins are one of the harder 1859 re-punch 9's to find in my hunting of re-punches, but its starting to get easier as we find the markers to look for and the type 2 inverted has a couple good markers on the Reverse.
When I see one with the leaf 2 that's open like it is I start to look a little deeper into the coin at leaf 9 next then the obverse to confirm that the C in Canada is the one

Its starting to look like maybe this leaf 9 is on one Reverse only making it a key marker for this 1859 invert (type 2).

Those new die states are in the Haxby catalog now. Thanks papeldog, okie, and Viper for all the help.

Me too! Bouncing back and forth, and occasionally visiting the 82's also.

Your welcome Phil,
On the 1881's + 1882's the 1881 I had one left to find it was the 1881 multi Reverse die clash and as luck would have it found one on e bay yesterday buy in now. My 81's are complete to what's in Charlton (my bible), but now to up grade a few to better grades.

The same goes for 1882 but still lots of work on the 1858, 1859 W9/8, as well as the RP9's of 1859 love it.

Happy Hunting

Just remember, Jim, that we only put about 20-30% of the '81's & '82's in there that could have gone into the variety section. Don't stop at what we put in the book .. stretch your limits.

Yes Bill,
I remember that a lot of varieties had to be left out when the variety section in the back of the Charlton 2011 65th edition was being put together.

I do have some other 81's + 82's that never made the book as space was a limited. But still it was an exciting time for Canadian large cent collectors, we need another run at it and introduce some of the other varieties.

I'll start another post on the 1881's + 1882's and show some others I have that didn't make the book. I'm sure there are more than what I'm going to show.
I sure liked Dan in Crystal lake's web site when it was up and running he had a lot of 1881 varieties to refer to when searching for them.

Maybe other collectors will chime in on the new post and show us there finds?

Are there any records existing for the number of dies produced or used in 1881 and 1882 for the Heaton mint coinage?

I know they are not listed in the beginning of the 2011 Charlton variety section.

If there are records for '81 & '82, Rob has them for his time in London researching his book(s). There is a possibility that a completed research product will soon be made available that will cover all the Obv 1's, 1a's and hybrids .... so '76, 81, 82, 84, 86. For those of you who don't know about Dan in CL (a long-time collector/researcher) mentioned by papeldog above, who has taken a little time off from the hobby, here are a couple of his sites (another is down):

That would be a real boost to the collecting of Victoria large cents!

I think a lot of people would collect 81's and 82's by dies if they had a good reference catalog to go to. They really are the most fascinating group of all the Vicky's in my opinion.
