one, buy away if it looks nice next to its neighbors.

Yes; whenever necessary and possible!

Problem often is that sellers don't offer such coins at a reasonable price.
Half of catalog should be the most, and often less than that.

You got me there! Since I'm so new I'm sure I haven't left too much money on the table yet. I've been using past selling prices and trying to consider differences beteeen the coins, as a basic price check. Is there an actual catalog that approximates values?

This is important for and of us trying to make good decisions.

Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge, no.
You have to do research of auctions and ebay.
And remember on ebay to look at:
-- completed auctions, and
-- items that actually sold.

This is what I've been doing but I'm sure it will take quite a few transactions before I am good at it.

I have an old Whitman Folder that had a slot for the 1913 Liberty Head Nickel. Also, an Album with a slot for the 1894S Liberty Head Dime. I keep hoping for a low grade one for those slots. Most newer Albums do not have a space for those.

I have seen these slots in old albums. I have heard of albums coming with, or people making, an insert for those holes saying "Extremely Rare", etc. Of course, an empty hole in an album can drive people crazy too.

Half of catalog is not the most a details coin should ever go for. They are not all equal, some should go for less and some should go for more. It all depends on what it is

I agree. Eye appeal and other factors still matter.

I just added this 1886 to my V-nickel album. It has 2 faint scratches on the obverse that I don't see most of the time. For $138 it was a good acquisition to me over a clean good condition example. It does not look too out of place.

Not at all, especially with Abe there in the '85 hole.

I hate empty holes!

I have a feeling Abe will be there for a while.

I get it. Thomas might stand out a bit less. Just saying.

Yes, but I do not want Tom to get too comfortable...or myself for that matter.

Ah, Incentive. I get that, too. Good luck with the last hole! It could be worse, right?
