Can we get closeups of the mint mark with your microscope?

What would it grade? It would not grade as an SVDB. Your "mintmark" could only be Die #1 or 2 given the relationship between its top and the tail of the first 9, but it is far too much to the right to be either of these. This is not an SVDB.

The position of the VDB and spacing of the dots after the initials is correct for a 1909-S-VDB, not a 1909-VDB. I was pretty skeptical that there is an S, as well, but it doesn't look like it can be a 1909-VDB. Regardless, it looks Unc details, harshly cleaned.

I pass on guessing this one, since I am in the camp it is not an S mintmark, but if the OP is convinced it is he is best submitting it to either prove/disprove the assertion since it is not really saleable as an S-VDB without certification. I would be interested if the OP cherry picked this as a non-S coin or otherwise.

If the OP can get this into a straight SVDB holder from NGC or PCGS, I will reimburse 100% of the fees.

Well it is Christmas. Now if the OP does that and then gets a CAC on it, we know what has frozen over!

Appears to be someone's failed attempt to fake an SVDB. As it stands, it would NEVER be able to be authenticated by anyone. In fact, I'll go in halves with Coinfrog!

I highly doubt this is a 1909-S VDB.

It appears someone attempted to add an S.

Seriously, guys, I agree completely that there is no visible S in the photos, but can anyone explain why it has the reverse of a 1909-S-VDB? This is not a 1909-VDB with an added S. It's either from a counterfeit die or someone scratched off the S of a real S-VDB.

Is that right, all SVDB reverse dies can be completely differentiated from all VDB reverse dies?

My understanding was that the position of the dot after the D, the height of the V, the form of the B, and the location of the initials relative to the wheat stalk could be used to distinguish a 1909-VDB from a 1909-S-VDB. But now that I'm comparing this coin with photos of some genuine coins, I'm not sure... I'm still leaning towards counterfeit.

This is comparison with PCGS graded 1909-S VDB. IMO Nobile03 your VDB is counterfiet as even the VDB appears to short and wide.
