VF30 as well. Looks like a late die state with all of the die cracks. I am a fan.

@Classic Coins Thanks for the link. I searched JR-3 and found the following quote from this link: Quote: John Reich 3 ~ Outside point of star 7 very close to denticle. Reverse with the I in PLURIBUS centered under the second T in STATES. Rarity 3.
Struck from the third use of this obverse die after 1830 JR.1 and 1830 JR.2. The obverse cracked across the top while striking 1830 JR.2, from the rim through star 7, across the cap to the rim at right. New obverse cracks then developed from star 8 to star 9 to the rim, joining the outer points of stars 1 to 6, the inner points of stars 1 to 7, and the inner points of stars 8 to 12. The reverse die cracked from the rim through the tops of NITE and back to the rim, from the rim through the top of A in STATES to the R in PLURIBUS, then through the tops of IC joining the rim at left and right. Sounds like a match to me.

The grade came back as XF40. That seems a bit generous, but I'll accept it.

closer inspection of the coin there is weakness in strike on both sides. the stars all have centers visible. the drape around the bust is pretty defined as well as the ear and LIBERTY. on the reverse the denomination as well as the raised lettering is sharp and defined. I can see why the graded it as a 40

You got lucky you dirty dog! Just kidding. I'd buy the XF grade even if it's not a strong one. It is a nice piece for sure.

I'd have no problem with XF-40 on this one.
