Thinned planchet. nice find. The weakness appears on the same sides of the coin back to back.

Yes they are back to back ;)

So not struck-through grease... this error is a thinned planchet then? I was just reading on tapered planchet...?

2.8g is underweight, so I think it's a tapered planchet. Nice find!

Think I might give this one a soak and see if I can get the gunk off the front ;)

First one of these I found.... hmmm recognized as an error anyways! LOL

Still learning, but I think a lot of stuff finally sunk in for me :) Even confident enough to chime in on some posts... Thank you both for your help!

Nice find. Yep - there wasn't enough metal in that area on the planchet to make a full imaged strike.

Tapered planchet errors may be thin overall or they may show normal thickness beyond the area affected by the taper. So in the absence of any other evidence, it's best to label this a tapered planchet error.

Thanks Mike!

I named it "Thinned Tapered Planchet" - Cause I wasn't sure I figured that covered it... LOL!
