I would simply humble myself, and explain that I didn't notice the high shipping cost, and could I please cancel the purchase.

Sometimes that works, at least on ebay, where buyers usually get their way with no ill effects.

I've been in that place too but not on ebay. I paid $15 for some coins and the shipping was $12 additional. I guess they thought my original bid wasn't high enough.

I always check the cost of shipping before buying or bidding.

It was NOT ebay where it is easy to see shipping charges. The auction site I used does not post the shipping right below the item when you open a search. You have to open the item and then surf around. But even then, you don't always find a fixed price. This particular auction did note a $38 shipping fee, but I just missed it.

The auction site did offer to refund $13 of my $38 but I am hoping the seller takes me up on my offer that he refund all postage and keep the coin that I have already paid for.

Sorry to hear this however, it is becoming a widely used scam everywhere. So many mail order place say free shipping, then tack on a high handling fee, guarantee delivery fees, etc. Free shipping? If you get any of those catalogs check out the order form before you even start looking at the merchandise. Same with coins. First read anything they say about shipping, insurances, etc. Add those prices on to whatever your buying.

Just tell them that you cannot pay for the item because you have had a heart attack and double stroke.

I experienced a similar issue.
I canceled the purchase and they were very grumpy about it.

You figure, I pay North Carolina sales tax every month on Internet Sales that I purchase. The other night I bought about $ 11.00 dollar's. I will now send in a North Carolina tax form E-551 for Mecklenburg County at 7.25 per cent. Now I will make a check out for under $1.00. How much will it cost North Carolina for an employee to accept my payment. What if I decide to return my article. What North Carolina form do I submit to get my Dollar back. Can I expect a Refund in 30 days. Will North Carolina refund my money on a Plastic (Debit or Credit Card ) Will the Debit or Credit card expire in 3 to 5 years. North Carolina now will have to throw away all the old form E-551 and add a line to allow me to put in for a Credit. Then the clerk will have to re-do the paper work if I don't have any tax due since I did not make any Internet purchases for 3 months and I need my $ 1,.00 Credit Now if all out of State Business are required to collect sales tax for all Internet Sales . Will they be given a 3 % discount discount , for collecting the sales tax, Then the Internet Sellers will have to do the paper work to make sure I get my refund and the Discount. Currently North Carolina does not give me a Discount for filing my Internet Purchases .I'm always glad to waste a 48 cent stamp to pay North Carolina if it cost them time and Labor to process my $1.00 check .I hope this bill does not pass , since all the Sales Tax will benefit only One North Carolina County- Wake County,Raleigh,North Carolina .
