Now I understand you better.
I really do not know if they are cleaned, what is their value for you?

If so, destroyed anything but melt value, IMHO

Sorry, but value is not really an opinion. You wouldn't pay anything over melt for them, but cleaned coins are regularly sold -just at a discount.
The collector in you doesn't value them, but the ability to sell them should give it "value" nonetheless.

I am not just trying to pick a fight. A new member has come along looking for a valuation. It would be misleading to let them think that they should part with these coins for less than $10.

Well big, he's asking for a value, what do you say? No fight picked, after all, *I* am also a newbie, a rookie and I am mostly parroting what I see on here. If I'm wrong, I will admit to it. To the op, it's worth whatever you can get for it. I have several like that, that I inherited. Even though they are worth melt value (per 3 different coin shops and folks on here), I would not sell them at any price, worth more to me than another collector. If you inherited them, then consider them priceless.

1892 plain half dollar, unmolested or cleaned, in my coin book is worth between (AU-50 to MS63) $350 to $925, depends on what grade it is. I guess AU 58 so around $500? I would not judge it any higher as there is absolutely no luster per the pics. IMHO

1892 plain quarter dollar, unmolested or cleaned, in my coin book is worth between (AU-50 to MS63) $130 to $375, again depends on what grade it is. I guess AU 58 so around $200. I would not judge it any higher as there is absolutely no luster per the pics. again, IMHO

I just notice you are from Serbia (Srbija), so for your information, IMHO means In My Humble Opinion. The book I am referring to is here: https://www.amazon.com/2019-Officia...ins+red+book
Just an example of the book, you can probably find it in any coin shop there.

perica, don't let that little bit of bickering deter you, collecting coins for a hobby is very fun! Collect more as you can find them. What I did is find what I liked then started working on a complete set. I'm almost there with Morgan silver dollars and have started on Franklin half dollars, both US coins. Maybe start a collection on your counties coins then work from there. You will enjoy it, I promise. That is my opinion. IMHO

Thank you very much, I'll look for your book.

Tomorrow I'll talk to my grandfather, about the coins, so I'll tell you more details.

I'm not even at the beginner level, I started to ask about these coins, I see it is very interesting, now I want to deal with this :)

The value of these coins should be that they belong/belonged to your grandfather.

Collectors don't like cleaned coins. Most, including myself, prefer a coin to be in original condition.

Now a days yes, but that was not always the case. Cleaning/wiping ect used to be the norm and was even encouraged for a long time way back in the day.

There is no luster in your pics which usually scream dipped.

You have to over dip or dip a coin many times before it will kill the luster. Dipping especially properly dipped coins make coins look like they were just minted not dead and lifeless.

The coin looks like someone has rubbed it also with a cloth which will leave the streaks (?) we are seeing? You will sometimes see those also but transferred from the die, called polishing marks.

Die polishing lines aren't streaks, they're raised lines on a coin which look very different.

That would certainly explain some coins I bought in rolls from the 60s.

Both coins appear cleaned. Most likely overdipped.
