T-BOP:jbuck: I am overstocked. I have been wanting to go on a "penny quest". I want to Go through the former Republic of West Florida hitting banks along the way. Then I Will head east along the gulf coast to Mobile AL.,north to Montgomery, west to Meridian MS, south to Hattiesburg MS,then home. My last quest went From Hattiesburg to Meridian to Montgomery then home netted me $450 in cents. I am hoping for much more this time. Now I here about "The Great American Coin Hunt" so I will head out the first Monday in May. I guess my timing is kinda good.

Petespockets55 , that is a great idea with the sub shop and other small stores ,but I think you should hold off on the weekly paper venue . You would be getting everyone and their uncle running to those stores to pick up free collector coins . I'm sure you want newbies to get the wheat cents in their change and say oh wow look what I got , these are cool . Again posting in local papers I think would invite unwanted scavengers to patronize these stores . Just my honest opinion .

Petespockets55; Perhaps you could go to the paper and suggest an article starting with "Have you noticed anything unusual in your change lately?". Ask them to print it the week after the "Great American Coin Hunt". It could go on to explain the "hunt" and the reason for it. Maybe you could write the article.

Today after an 8:15 Easter service I went through a Dickson, TN McDonald's and in my change found a VF30 1936-D Buffalo nickel. As I have some better grade examples of this coin already, I am going to put the Buffalo back into circulation. It is neat to think that this coin is probably part of the "Great American Coin Hunt". Everyone check your change!

I'm kind of surprised that this thread is only on its second page. I started a little early and left a silver quarter in my cart at Aldi yesterday. I'm planning to spend a few dollars in silver this week.

Well the week is almost up. Did anyone find an obsolete coin, or contribute to this venture?

Wondering if anyone came across anything good yet?
While going through a box I came across a nice 1965 cent with a smiley face sticker on it.
I thought I seen somewhere someone saying they were putting stickers on theirs, but I can't find that information again.

I don't know if it was the result of the great american coin hunt, but last thursday a member of one of the local clubs reported finding a 1908 quarter eagle in a roll of dimes.
