Quote: Not familiar with these - but is the reverse rotated 90 degrees from the obverse? Is that normal? Yes and no probably not.

Thanks guys. Yah, it was kind of a nice surprise. I don't care too much for this particular coin (much too small for my liking), I was just being opportunistic, so that grade was an affirmation of my gamble. As for the 90 degree rotation, you are right, it is very uncommon from my research, but there are other examples of such instances. I was not aware of this rotation when bidding and was very concerned about authenticity when I received the item. Finding other examples with his unusual rotation helped calm things down. https://coins.ha.com/itm/california...ption-071515

Nice to see an authenticated pristine specimen. There are so many that aren't.

Very cool coin! These have always been very interesting items, but also very expensive for many of them, puts them out of my price range most of the time.

Thanks guys! I'm pretty sure I'm going to go ahead and sell it. Any thoughts on a good price? Is 2500-3000 reasonable?

back to the obverse: Is that a struck through thread?

Great question. I have no idea what caused the imperfection. Clearly there was something there (I am not sure a thread would produce this kind of an incuse mark). I guess since it's gold and the metal is softer, it wouldn't take much, and any obstruction would be readily reflected in the planchet after strike. Here are better images pre slabbing. Sorry - capturing the details of a tiny coin in a slab using a phone is not a simple process.
