by the way I wasn't offering to sell you a quarter at an insane price in circulated condition. :) I just recently sold an entire set, with a nice mat holder to someone one the forum for $15. I think the difference in in price rises dramatically after the ms63 grades and higher.

I know you weren't. I just have a hangup about price guides. I used to deal in baseball cards and all of the "book prices" were about 3-4 times higher than ANYBODY was paying for the cards. The dealers were the ones setting the prices trying to drive prices up so I have become very skeptical of book values, I assure you I didn't mean anything personal by that statement. Sorry if I offended you, that was never my intention.

lol no offence taken. I myself am not too sure why the provincial quarters have jumped so high in the last year other than maybe low mintages or, (and I have seen this many, many times) Canadians didnt really collect and hoard these. They just stayed in pocket change and nobody bothered with them. That was a big problem in canada for a few years there simply because every quarter they put out was "collectible" so you had to either NEVER spend your change anywhere or just say screw it and spend them. I have done it myself to be honest. If it's in my pocket and I am at the store I spend them. So maybe it is really hard to find the circulated quarters in any kind of decent shape?

We are seeing the same thing with the State Quarters here in the U.S.. At first, everybody was hoarding rolls of them so the price went up for a while then people realized they were never going to be worth much they started spending and the price dropped like a rock. Kind of the reverse of your situation. I wonder how much of an effect the worldwide credit mess is having as people are speculating on anything not made of paper. It will be interesting to see what happens to prices in a year or two.

About Charlton pricing: "The Charlton Press pricing tables are built on Canadian certified coins (...) It is important to realize that coin certification incurs a cost, and on low price coins it will play a factor". - 62nd Ed. p85.

canadian coins,
that is true too. Still, I can't imagine that a coin in ms65 is going to stay cheap for long. It has been 14 years since the provincial quarters came out so it's only sensible that eventually there was going to be a shortage in good quality circulation coins. I guess the general idea is that a dollar for a ms65 coin would be too low and 15.00 would obviously be too high. lol

I just checked the price of nickel (the metal)and it is almost $8/pound. A good bit of the rise in value may be there since all metals have risen dramatically since 1992. Just a thought!

Very true! Give it 20 years and we'll all be stockpiling our silverware for metal content. lol

Question: Canadian Coins wrote: "The Charlton Press pricing tables are built on Canadian certified coins (...)" Does that apply to all coins in Charlton?

I'd like to know that too. I mean how much are we supposed to deduct from their values tables before we are at the actual value of a coin?

All coins in the book. At least this is what Charlton claims on several pages.
Common sense dictates some coins are more likely to be worthy of certification than others... which probably explains common circulation coins at or about FV.

Just picked up the Silver set of these. They are nice coins. If the Circulation Issue is $15 in MS-63 why not just go with the silver proof?
