First picture is the 1982 D small date. Notice how the "2" curves down towards the base like the letter "S". Second picture is the 1982 D large date. Notice how the "2" comes straight down to the base. To find out if the coin weighs 3.1 grams or 2.5 grams, I use a scale. I hope this helps

To CCF! 3.1 grams is normal for the Large Date cents. It's the 1982 D Small Date Copper you're looking for.
Errers and Varietys.

Unless it is in MS condition, it is only worth 1 cent.

No I've never worked for a grading company. I worked at one job for 45 years until I retired. (31 years at the last company) Grading is so often not always correct for me. I see a coin on PCGS and it is usually over graded from what I see. I guess I'm tougher on grades of coins. I seldom grade a coin. it is to much a bother to me. When I grade a coin, it is if I'm buying a coin. I prefer earlier grade coins, third part graders count Machine Doubling as part of the process of striking. To me it is undesirable. They don't consider die states. I do. So, I'm very picky about what I buy. I'm getting to the point where I need to sell my collection. Buy a lot less.
