OK, I have to ask, where the heck is Ahia?
I was under the impression that shill bidding was illegal here in Alabama. However, I have seen auctioneers here take "bids" from people I knew were associated with the auction house. I have even seen them take a bid out of thin air to get the ball rolling.
I agree that most "Estate Auctions" are not actual estates, but are a conglomeration of items from various sources. I really don't care what they call the auction/sale, or where the items came from as long as they aren't stolen. My main concerns are to avoid counterfeits/fakes, and to get things at a good price.

It's that state with the funny flag above West-by-God Virginia. You know, high in the middle and pointy on both ends?

"Ahia" is how many of the locals pronounce Ohio. I know this because I have more than a handful of friends and relatives from or in that state!

I always thought I was married to a Yankee, now I know she's an Ahian, from the general vicinity of Akron.

Fred has his own language sometimes. Some of the words he uses you'll even see a ™ next to them.

I'm from Shermanville. 30 miles SE and 30 years behind the Crapital City. A city that's proud of its past, because it has no future.

The best advice when going to a live auction is... go armed with knowledge, books, price guides, etc., go to the preview and look at all the things you are interested in and make notes and set your own prices, stand/sit in the back rows, stick to your prices, do not get caught up in all the hipe of the auctioneer.
As mentioned above, auctioneers do not always know what they are selling, they are only acting as agents for the seller(s). So it is always best to know what you are bidding on and not always relying on the auctioneers description of an item.

It's called shill bidding and is absolutely illegal in Ahia.
For real it is illegal almost everywhere. But then again so is murder, robbery, etc. and yet for some odd reason people ignor things that are illegal. When walking accross a street I always tell people cars can't hit me, it's illegal. See the crutches.

Most people don't realize it, but you can mail a bunch of stuff to "postmaster, wherever" and they will remail it with their postmark as long as you have enough postage on it. It's how they do those letter from Satan Claws deals. You could send your Christmas cards to Bethlehem PA for remailing, for example. Many places like Santa Claus IN and North Pole AK even have special postmarks.
They did draw the line when a porno seller wanted to mail a few hundred thousand advertising fliers from Intercourse, PA.
