Recent Purchase First Radar In Multi Color Series

Very Nice. A binary, a two digit radar and a pair. Super Cool.

$950 + 18%commission + 5% tax. I'll Assume another $20 for shipping. Total should be around $1200 for both. So around $600 each.

I know the book says far less, but the book doesn't list the first possible radar of the whole multi-colour series. I had some one in the canadian paper money forum say they tought between $1000-$2000 each as their estimate.

When the auction started, they were asking for a $5000 starting bid, but with no bids and I guess a motivated seller, they accepted my opening bid of $700. Then with some real exaggerated delays and looking over to someone behind the scenes two more bids came in which boosted it to $900. I gave my next bid of $950 and they decided to let me have it.

Was quite the experience. Now I'am thinking of bringing them to the next Nuphilex show. I have never been, but I am assuming there will be some grading companies there(think of going with PCGS.) and having them graded.

Let me know if anyone has been before and if there is indeed grading companies on site at this show?

- I stopped hunting for notes on that network as too many notes were selling far, far over book value (& I have not seen that before for such low/poorly described notes). It's clear that they must have a large contingent of US or European buyers who are speculators. A starting bid of $5000 is highly unrealistic and coming from that site should be completely disregarded. I saw countless errors in their estimated value of mislabelled currency they had up for auctions in the past.
I hope "They" who "let you have it" refers to the other bidders (who backed off) and not the auction house.



- I think that what you paid seems like a fair price provided the notes can be certified as UNC 62 (Original or EPQ). I realize that a member from CPMS estimated much higher but you should take that estimate with a grain of salt. While BV for 2 digits remains $110 those happen to be much highly sought after 1000 notes (which are not listed in the book). Good luck with the grading!

You have to wonder if the preauction price was 5 k and they accepted a very low opening bid, but you got a good deal as mentioned if the notes are unc, which they probably are because the original owner probably culled these from brick hunting. If you follow Heritage, or Canadian main auctions last couple years, the error and rare currency market has changed upwards by leaps and bounds, most things have doubled and triple and some really cool stuff, skies the limit. The price you paid is really good if they grade out, nice notes

- yes, it seems that way (& the book hasn't really caught up with that). It's also important to note that some auctions featured special collections (which usually attract world-wide bidding). I believe that more world (US. European & Asian) collectors have turned towards Canadian paper $ since our currency has converted to polymer. A similar phenomenon occurred with Australian paper a while back I believe.

********UPDATE*****So the notes just came back from BCS grading and I am a little disappointed. The $1 came back 60 original and the $2 came back 55 AU original. I know that BSC is one, if note they tuffet graders but wow wasn't expecting AU.

Oh well, still happy to have them in my collection.
