CoinTheTerm,
Just a heads up and to defend myself. Most members know me as a "yes" or "no" answerer, sometimes a brief answer. I am right about 80% of the time. Coop is an in depth answer along with photos. And WADR,the go-to guy is Mike Diamond. If a member posts a coin with MD, most of us "good ole boys" are going to call it what it is... machine doubling You can't call MD a DDO if it is MD,you see what I am sayin'? Keep at it,research and research some more. You'll get it.

I think he more than likely has it since he doesn't post unless he has something, but I personally not educated enough to make that call. I trust people's opinion more than my own in regards to collecting coins since they've been doing this for a lot longer than I have, even though I've saved a couple of coins that members on here told me was just MD. I know what MD looks like, but the example I've posted on here couple of weeks ago didn't match with my knowledgeable of MD, so I just saved it even if it is truly MD. People make mistakes and that's okey. We are human, we are not perfect, and we definitely don't know everything.

Cheers

Hey John thanks for that response I understand clearly what you are saying and trust me I know your style on here very well I have been following your posts for quite some time and certainly regard you as a trusted member of The forum. I wouldn't want it any other way if it's MD than it is MD what I'm saying is whether you have been on here for quite some time or you are a noob if the pictures aren't clear we shouldn't default to answering that something is or isn't one thing or another we should request the same from somebody that's new as from somebody thats an expert. Just as if it's MD we should call it MD if it's not clear we should call it not clear also.

Agreed. I do not even answer posts unless I am 80% sure of my answer

(known for) brief answer(s). I am right about 80% of the time.

I feel most of us can agree with this^

I'm working on my own site right now, I'm still trying to learn as much as I can. There's definitely some areas I'm inexperienced with.

I agree Mike Diamond is one of, if not the most, credible and knowledgeable member of this forum. He is a writer for Coin World and is credited in error-ref, cuds-on-coins, maddieclashes, and traildies.com .

And, although not on the forum, Dr. James Wiles is definitely one of the go-to guys for die varieties now. He runs Varietyvista.com .

Double agree. If I'm not sure I won't pretend I am.

I find this pretty interesting, because I actually have a few of these 1984 "DDO's" from a few years back when I started with varieties with the exact same thickness on the word GOD, which I can clearly see today is not the actual DDO.

It's easy to find varieties that have a very subtle difference in them and then almost every coin you find will look like it, even though there are other subtle differences that are hard to see and make it a true DDO. All it takes is time and research to train your eye to be able to pick out the coins your looking for. Keep hunting for errors, it gets more fun the longer you do it!

There's actually a ton of these out there, though most are very minor. It's the second-coming of the "bar-on-column" DDRs that were on the memorial cents.

If there weren't so many dismissive comments on my post when I first discovered them, I feel people would actually know about/be looking for them. Oh well

I had the same thing happen way back when I was finding a ton of the bar on columns. I would post a find and have little to no interest in them so I stopped posting them. I have around 500 in my collection/hoard. Awhile back I thinned out the heard by around 100 with small bars and released them back into the wild.

I didn't mean to phrase it like that, I really don't care. I'm pretty sure there's little interest because of how minor most of them, not the initial feedback.

But yes they're fairly common like the bar-on-columns. I probably have 100 or so, but there are a few pretty strong ones that I rarely come across. Those few major ones, especially that 2012 one, are actually really fun to find and I hope people look out for them. Also there's likely some nice ones out there yet to be discovered.

I still horde my bar cents, the only reason I don't with shields is I have a strong dislike for the design.

But once to get used to where they do have the stronger doubled dies, then you will appreciate them more:

I have a set of side by side images with a normal and the DDR. So if anyone wants me to post them, let me know:
