Will you still be concentrating on the weaponry or have you returned to coins?

Sticking with the weaponry for the time being, Paul. Although with occasional coin pickups alongside.

As most of you know, I mainly stick to Roman coinage, but this is a beauty. Bob could you post some of the weaponry? I've always been interested, but apprehensive of starting a new hobby.

I did buy these a few years ago, just to show my students.

Bronze arrowheads - Roman or Greek?

TC, round one of my gallery is at:
http://www.forumancientcoins.com/ga...p?album=7069

Round two will be uploaded in a few months. I've been busy purchasing and won't have time to photo and upload for some time, unfortunately.

The two-part lead-in essay begins here: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/bo...36#msg724936

And my CCF post dealing with this collecting focus is here: http://goccf.com/t/353026

Here's one of three items picked up within the past week - the socketed spearhead I referred to above. It's approximately 3 1/2 thousand years old, from ancient Iran. It's got great provenance, from the Johan Dæhnfeldt collection. (He and his wife were well known Danish art collectors) For cataloging purposes it's a Negahban, Pl. XI, fig. 139, Moorey Pl. 5, fig. 41.

Wow Bob, I just learned more in the last 5 minutes than in past two years. Much appreciated. .

I saved the pic that you annotated, which will help a lot in the classroom. Your collection and the fact that it has all the descriptions is quite impressive. It's been bookmarked and will be a great reference for future purchases.

Thank you!

Happy to assist.

The best online source for arrowhead attribution - though the process can be fraught with challenges due to similar types being used across cultures - is Forum's page here:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/n...%20Arrowhead

My own interest in the weaponry started with arrowheads. My Parthian arrowheads, which I don't have posted in my "Bronze Weaponry of Western Asia" gallery despite their fitting that theme (I keep the arrowhead pic in my Parthian gallery instead), are at the following links. Malloy and Sermarini have these types listed definitively as Parthian, but elsewhere I've seen similar ones listed as Scythian. (The Arsacids of Parthia, who were great bowmen, were descended from a Scythian tribe, so it makes sense that the Parthian ruling clan brought the type with them to ancient Iran):

WOW!.....Thats a beautiful spearhead Bob
Just took another look at your collection, very impressive!
Do you actually display these at home in glass cabinets or are they stored away?
My Fibula collection is getting bigger now and I'm thinking of purchasing a nice glass cabinet to really bore my friends with!....Paul

Paul, There's a specific display cabinet (at the local IKEA) I've been eyeing for some time, and I have a buddy with a pickup truck whose willing to assist me get it. Now all I need is the time. It's one of many things on my to-do list. Until then the artifacts are spread around the house. I hope to get the cabinet and to set up a nice display within the next half year.
