Hi 19agilman79, It looks like electroplated with copper. There are many vids on YouTube of people doing this.

Or a metal detector find. If you see a hint of silver color on the highest devices, the corrosion has worn off those areas. (above Liberty) On the missing cladding it is often noticed the weaker strikes happen because of the missing cladding. (Also making it lighter)

Can't really tell by the pic but I do have some advice, always hold your coins by the rim that way you won't transfer a fingerprint on the coins surface.

Sorry, there are times that we want it to be, what we really, badly want it to be, but this is not it. It is not a missing clad, Uneven surface colors along with dark spots on the face and in between devices, a sharp focused picture with TRUE color will confirm.

Hello again 19agilman79. I hope you have a clad-free quarter. I'm responding because I have made several copper plated quarters. A bit of boring background so nobody will think we did it with ill intent (high school chem labs do it as well). Several years ago a friend and I got all caught up in buying bags of "unsearched" Roman coins off ebay. We got hosed to say the least - they WERE Roman coins but tiny tiny and most crusted chunks of metal. So, we decided electrolysis would at least show us the coins, and it did. Interesting, yes. Valuable, no. Afterward we had the setup to electroplate, so we used root killer (copper sulfate), a car battery, and stripped 12g Romex copper wire. We produced about 14 quarters identical to yours. Brasso would even make them shine like a modern shield penny, but your example matches about 6 of our best efforts. I'm not saying you got one or OUR quarters, but we got the idea from the countless electroplating YouTube videos out there. Most of them electroplate quarters and dimes. I'm not posting to discourage I promise

With every picture it looks even less like a missing clad coin.
