Thank you all, Triggersmob, Oriole, Dorado, and Fplagge, all very good points to take into account and I will use them. I am aware that most of the coins don't have any value but I feel that I need to do this for my Father in law because even though we collected differently, we spent a lot of time together talking and sorting coins out together which was the cement of our bond among other things to the dismay of my wife and Mother in Law not to mention the stories that came with a lot of the coins he had. KM #s are unique catalog numbers for world coins.

@mrjon, I'm going to move your thread to a different part of CCF so that it gets more eyeballs on it. I hope that it continues to spur vigorous discussion.
Also, welcome to CCF!

KM# refers to the Krause-Mishler numbers found in Krause coin catalogs. If you don't have them, you may want to get hold of some Krause Standard Catalogs of World Coins to help you sort your collection.

One way to handle these is to donate the low value items to a coin club with young numismatists. Let the kids sort them out!

I do have another question in regards to how to arrange my inherited world coins, I've got a bag full of euros. do these go in a separate section or with their country or as a 3rd choice, keep them until I go to Europe? regards Mrjon

mrjon, each country produces their own Euro coins, So I just file them with the respective country. Cheers Steve

thanks Triggersmob was on the same wave length as you, but I'm still tossing up whether to use them the next time I go overseas or not, that is if we get through this bloody covid-19 virus

Mrjon, We'll get through it sooner or later. If you have lots of Euros, keep one of each and spend the rest. Steve

I agree with just putting them into 2x2 flips and organizing by country. I also happen to be a collector that loves those 10 cent coins. I find a good deal of pleasure adding to my collection regardless of the 'value' of said coins. I try and collect one type form each of the governments within that country as well as one type from each of the currency reforms. so anyone that wants to send me their 'cheap' world coins, I'm happy to provide an address I just love collecting. I don't expect my collection will ever be worth much. I just hope whoever ends up with it, likes to look at them. In fact, 30% of my coins are valued 50 cents or less and 55% of my collection are $1 or less.
