This is just horrible, it seems to be happening more and more often, much to my dismay.

If it was a professional job they will just be broken out, resubmitted and sold. Its to bad, they just busted someone here in MI for selling stolen stuff on ebay. There listing was listed as being sold from TX but a cop noticed a fence in the pic and went out on a hunch and nailed them, found tons of stolen stuff.

Yes I do hope they get caught. I wish they would have rather tried to get mine. Also if I had a 1969-S or a 70-S DDO they would be in a safe deposit box or a vary large heavy safe. With that many coins did he have insurance on them? When I do find myself lucky in some distant future to own a nice collection will home owners ins. cover them if they have been appraised?

Wow, some loss of some great coins.
Wish them good luck in getting them back.

I hope those are spotted--a few of those are very high-profile coins, such as the 69-S DDO. I doubt that one could even be re-submitted without arousing suspicion. Good luck to the owners.

I got an email from a dealer this morning(Lynn Ourso of New Orleans Rare Coins) who knew the Gallos. He said that the only lead so far is CCTV footage from a hotel showing someone placing a GPS tracking device under a rear wheel well. If that is the case, then the robbers were certainly professionals and possibly even contracted for this robbery, i.e. they are working for someone. I know this is only speculation on my part, however it is not unheard of in the art world for works of art to be stolen by contract for a client who is willing to pay for the theft of a piece of art that cannot be conventionally purchased. Any time GPS trackers are used in a crime, low level petty criminals are not involved- that is a device for the "big boys" Quote: When I do find myself lucky in some distant future to own a nice collection will home owners ins. cover them if they have been appraised? Homeowners insurance will only cover it if you spend a fortune for coverage and have ridiculous amounts of paperwork to boot. Plus, most homeowners policies have a fairly high deductible so you will loose out on $1000-5000 right off the bat. Some homeowners policies treat collector coins as cash , in other words- only face value can be claimed because it is just "money". The best type of insurance to get is collector specific insurance. Members of the ANA have access to group rate collection insurance through Hugh Wood and I have heard it is a very reasonable cost.

Thanks for the advice I may need some day. So for now I will have to train a dog to like my collection more then me or on heck of a VARY heavy safe. Still do believe the save deposit box would have saved there major losses. I once worked at a place that had the 10" wide x 2'deep safe built into the concrete floor covered by a piece of removable carpet to match the floor. Good luck packing that off.

What do you estimate a collection like that is worth?

How did this happen? On the road home? Did they not hire an armored car service? Really sorry to hear this. Hopefully someone will spot some of the stolen coins and beat these guys into submission. Then beat em again!
