silver sense, you are awesome! Thank you so much for giving me a point of reference cuz there's so many things on the internet that's not.

I went back and posted a couple of pictures of those holes towards the outside of the corn face. They really are holes. IDK... The ones that make sense to be scratches don't show up in the pictures the same way. They show up whitish or heavily ridged. But those little boogers are deep and rounded but not circular

Could you please peek at those for me because I really am trying to make sure I don't make this mistake again! And I admire and value your expertise and you're welcome to the forum!

People with colors in their name or always Awesome...says Bluejoy. Hahaha

I'm having trouble getting a good side view to show that the crown of there is no damage to the crown... That's why I'm so confused I think

No problem! Glad I could help, that's my goal here! If you need any more assistance, you can contact me personally, or use the forum haha.

I just checked your extra photos and yes I do see what you're seeing. When I was first beginning this also confused me as the color was gold just like the rest of the coin. This is PMD. What's happened here is that the metal has been pushed sideways, causing it to not indent that much, allowing it to keep it's color without breaking the plating. It's interesting, but not an error.

Of course yes, if you need help or assistance, I can provide it. I'm happy you admire my minor experience, I still have a lot to learn myself! Glad you appreciate my help.

Ah nice one! Blue, well, Cyan, which is a type of blue (kinda) is my favorite color so I say

Talk to text sucks. I have another one for you... Are the closes A & m on America pretty common? I read your thread about you're looking for error coins and I had two or three but I was going to see if you wanted for free. I'm going to put up the pics and just a second. I have to upload and make them small. LOL

Indeed it can be difficult. Depends on the date. The close AMs on the 1992 cents are worth A TON. But anything above the date of 1992 that has a Close AM is normal. But, if a 1998, 1999, or 2000 cent has a Wide AM, those are also valuable and considered an error. Thanks for the offer though, means a lot!

Ah yes the difficulties of uploading photos haha, I hated doing it when I first started out but it's required for receiving help!

Yep, that's a 1993 D Close AM, sadly normal for the year. As mentioned, if it's a 1992 coin and it has a Close AM, then you've hit the lottery.

The lottery sounds nice. Lol

I knew the looking at pocket change, but my brilliant father when 1963 rolled around started buying up all of the $10 rolls of 50 cent pieces for $10 because they had announced in 64 that was it. we used to get gold coins in our stockings for Christmas, and I have a ridiculous amount of foreign coins that I wouldn't know what to look for.

Seriously though, I really appreciate your input if I come across anything amazing you will be the first one to know. Thank you! Just curious about what time zone you're in? It's 1:20 in the morning where I am and I was just curious.lol

And for anyone listening, small Dusty old towns with small town Banks still allow the possibility that somewhere in the back of the vault they'll have 50 cent pieces and all you need to do is look at the first one to know if you're in the right era

They used to call me the 50 cent girl at school because I always paid my lunch money and in 50¢ pieces

But that was better than when dad was looking for silver nickels. It sucks getting your allowance in rolls of nickels after he's already picked them! LOL

It does indeed.

Oh wow, jeez that is quite the story. Gold coins in stockings? Sign me up! I only got into coin collecting two years ago, and I'm rather young for the hobby so I've got a lot of time to spend!

No problem, all I want to do is help and learn myself when it comes to this. Sounds good to me! We're in the same time zone haha. I'm a teenager, and as teenagers do, we stay up late.

Wow! Just read your second post and I'm very intrigued. Wish I got into coin collecting at an earlier age but oh well. That is quite the experience and story!

I grew up literally with newspapers over the whole kitchen table and both sinks full of warm water soaking off stamps from envelopes and whatnot. Then as kids my brother and sister and I would spend a million hours looking through the big ol volumes of stamp identification books back before computers. we would go through to find the anomalies the color the country that everything based on the word descriptions for most of them to find out the value. tedious is the easiest word and the most PG that I could use for that crap. But it was fun because you never knew what you would find

He got us into auctions in unusual places as a hobby. one time he bought an old timers volumes of stamps that they've been collecting forever as part of an estate sale. Lo and behold in one of those humongous volumes we located a stamp that we verified and New York worth $135,000.

He paid 100 for the lot. this Pocket change coin hunting is really addictive and I find myself dashing for the phone with every coin I pick up. Hahaha better than bad habits that could also get you money.

I'm not 50 yet and I'll leave my age at that. But I really appreciate your guidance!

Get some rest even though we're all schooling at home right now. I've got to go to sleep or I won't wake up in time for my eight year olds zoom class in the morning.

Take care of yourself. and I have no idea how to send personal messages so everybody reading, y'all take care too!

Some helpful hints for you...
Try to never touch coins with your fingers, especially silver... Oils in your pores get on the coin and can cause permanent stains.
If you touch the coin, only the rim.
Never clean a coin. Only exception is to use pure acetone from the hardware store (not nail polish remover) to soak off gunk, then rinse with distilled water.
Ask lots of questions, there is no such thing as a stupid question.
Welcome to the site.
