Soak in pure acetone. I bet some of that gunk can be removed. Very nice RPM!

Acetone unlikely to help, Verdi-care might, but the area under the ED will remain discolored.

Thanks Spence, SamCent, Coinfrog, and Coop.

Hadn't heard of Verdi-care. Where do you get it?

I might have to fall back on my bronze disease treatments from museum artifacts - remove growth, solution of sodium carbonate to neutralize acid, distilled water to remove chlorides, acetone to remove water.

Not sure the coin would be same color after though.

I was challenged to come up with a contest for my 100th post.
So how about this - my favorite variety is this RPM. But it has bronze disease.

Contest-

Find a similar green coin, take before pictures. Use your best treatment on it. Take an after picture. Post them with directions.

Perhaps! Currently at a beach resort without any cleaning agents, so I'll have to wait a little bit.

I would create a post in the Contest section.

We have a contest section? LOL.

I'm very insular. I generally don't look outside Varieties and maybe CRHing.

SilverCents - and anyone else interested.

I've created a prize contest in the contest section. Winner at the end of July.

Bumping this to remind everyone to submit a treated copper coin to my contest in the Contest section of the forum.

Only 12 days left (open until July 30th).

What exactly are you qualifying when deciding the winner?

SilverCents - How well the corrosion is removed, with out damaging the rest of the coin.
