@Coop were these dies being made as single squeeze? I've heard various start dates for single squeeze ranging from mid-80s to 1997 (and, as I understand it, the 1995 DDOs are multiple hubbing doubled dies, as is 1996 DDO-001)

Etsy and ebay have no quality control measures. When you no longer need to ask a question about a variety or an error, then it might be ok to buy from Etsy or ebay. Buy the coin and not the slab: To many times we have seen posts on incorrectly attributed slabs. Yup agree.. give the person the opportunity TO MAKE IT RIGHT or hook the person up with the appropriate feedback.

Well that would be a way to determine when the single squeezed dies started. Also another clue would be, when the bar cents started on the Memorial reverses. Those are from the single squeeze process.

I find that one kind of interesting, Coop, since the bar cents come in two very different forms - the classic center-design doubling in the middle bay that is the typical location for single squeeze doubling, and the wider-spread doubling seen on coins starting around the mid 80s that is perhaps best represented by 1994 DDR-001. Would you say both are single squeeze, or are some of these multi-squeeze?

I think the series changed at different times. Perhaps they used up some older dies, then went to the single squeeze dies after the other reverse dies were used up. Something to look at to see if we can figure this out. Also the Ridge Ring was a result of the lower profile is on the single squeeze dies as well. The older style dies have a taller profile. Die wear is also different on the single and multi hub dies. |
