Cannot tell if it is raised or incuse but if it is raised it could be a pretty massive die chip. If it is incuse which I don't think it is then it could be a strike through.

Looking at the edge under the wing it kinda looks incuse to me I'll say Struck through.

I'll need to inspect the lens by hand tonight, but from my hi-rez photo(15MP) it definitely appears to be a raised area.

Hm interesting, it has a weird grain and texture to it. My guess is die chip if it's raised. If it's incuse, perhaps a strike through.

jdsherod: It can sometime be VERY TRICKY taking pictures of coins. I have had the same, looks raised at one angle and another NOPE lol

Going to roll with a die chip.... It looks lower then the wings to me... Though photos can fool the eye easily. Something to remember Cuds are always on the rim edge of a coin and will never not touch the edge of a coin.... |

Even with my loupe it's hard to tell, but maybe it's incused. So, that would mean Struck Through Grease? Jon |

Take a toothpick or something small a Pin and put the tip on the area and then look to see if its lifted off the coin and not flat  |

OK, so I took a toothpick to it and it is definitely raised and more importantly,it is definitely something environmental. It's pretty soft, almost like grease filled with metal.
Should I try to gently remove this stuff?
