I know of one site with information on $2 wrong planchet strikes etc, address is coinscan dot com. There are a few examples where the foreign coin the planchet was supposed to be made into is identified (Bangladesh Five Takka, Barbados One Dollar, Venezuela 2 Bolivares). All of those are silver-coloured, but none are listed as weighing 7.9 g and the Five Takka strike is 12-sided. There is another $2 coin believed to be struck on the correct planchet but without the center removed (7.4 g). The site gives estimated values of $700 for most of these coins.
It would be interesting to figure out what that planchet was supposed to be. What did the edge look like? Elsewhere on the site I mentioned there are listings of other foreign planchets made by the RCM, but there are a lot of listings to sort through (77 countries).
I honestly feel that whoever bought that coin just lost a bundle of money. Granted I guess they have the coin in hand for a better assessment then I can. But I see plated coins quite a bit. Be it silver or mercury. This stuff happens, and unfortunately I think that is the case with your coin.
hi there - I am the one who found this toonie and accepted the offer from a collector - the collector is extremely brilliant in this area and researched before buying and confirmed this toonie was legitmate and not a cause of fraud as I know nothing on this subject and I was onlny looking for information then offers started to come in to me
I have an all gold in colour Tonnie that is probably and error coin. It is magnetic but I am not sure the weight of it. Just wondering how rare mine is. I have tried to find information on it but have only found info on the all silver ones.
I doubt it is a foreign planchet, but actually struck without the core punched out in the all nickel planchet (I assume it is magnetic?). All nickel twoonies are not too scarce, but most are dated 1996. Yours appears to be damaged on the rim? The last several all-nickel twoonies that have sold at coin shows, have fetched between $700 and $900. Yours might fetch less, seeing the damage on the reverse...

Incorrect. For some reason, you can find this type of error from 2006-2008 Twoonies...
Secondly, all errors are unique in one way or another - that does not make it any more (or less) expensive among error collectors.

I found a similar (1999) one a couple of years ago, and while doing research on it I stumbled on to this community and got jump started into collecting. https://goccf.com/t/106165&SearchTerms=chrome
as others have said, don't be in a hurry to sell it until you know exactly what you have (mine sold for $750.00)
Wow ...I've been reading around on the forums and I am very lucky guy! SPP-Ottawa commented on my coin! thats awesome and Wade the 12 sided toonie man commented too. :) thanks I'm happy just with that !
