Thanks all! Sorry about busting you on this one Klocc but just too nice not to have a good go at it. I will submit it, just a question of which TPG. PCGS has been a pain of late with any minor thing but would certainly prefer they grade it. I tend to agree that if cleaned, it was done right and would fall into the characterization of conserved, not cleaned since it appears to show no altered color and no damage.

Well Dave, now that would solve my wife's problem of what to do with all these coins when I fall down a deep pit in some bat cave in Borneo and meet my doom.

You're late for dinner! And the only rare thing I found in a cave in Borneo was a new species of cave gecko. That was cool, but not exactly a sack of gold.

Nice find TB. Let us know if you do decide what to do about anything on the surface before grading and after. It will be educational for us. Thanks.

I am tempted to do nothing to it, as I dislike mucking with expensive coins at all, but unsure how a TPG would look at a coin with oily residue on it. Anyone have any experience with such? Maybe I should post that question in the grading forum.

Look at that beard!! What a great looking example. Congrats bats.
Almost looks like ren wax may have been applied. If it were mine I would take the acetone approach first, followed by xylene if acetone doesn't do the trick.
Given the way PCGS had been lately..... if you picked up on the residue, I'm sure they will and will more than likely give it the Details. If your ok and accepted it as a Details coin, leave it be. But I'd go the acetone, xylene if necessary route. My 2 cents.

So does this new rare species of gecko have a new scientific name yet? Tbesius gecko-ous or Tropical Battius Gecko-ous maybe?
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups. We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
