Or is it the beginnings of a possible capped die?

As Dearborn asked about the weight of this coin, I too would like to know what it weighs. Based on your pics, my first take was that this Linc. is heavier than normal. I may be totally wrong but I would like to see a weight on this one.

The weight of the coin is 3.07 grams. John1, my first thought was Ridge Ring but we normally only see that on zincolns.

Just to be clear,I do not think it is Ridge Ring I thought it might be die attrition http://www.error-ref.com/?s=die+attrition.

It looks to me, in the two dimensions on offer, that the obverse die was not parallel to the reverse when the coin was struck. If so, the caliper of the blank field from the 4 o'clock to 5 o'clock region should show a discernible discrepancy from the 10 to 11 o'clock region.

John1, we both know it isn't a Ridge Ring and I am definitely on your side on die attrition.

I swear I can see the outline of letters under Abe's bust in your fifth and sixth pictures.
Wear and polishing make it impossible from a picture to be certain.

Thanks for sharing.

This cent displays Die Deterioration, a component of which is a sharply defined Ridge Ring.

Great info Mike and thank you for clarifying this for everyone. This one, for me at least, was a difficult one to decipher. I had several ideas (which all were wrong...lol) but thanks for chiming in with your bank of knowledge. Still loving Error-Ref you produced. Don't believe there's a single topic on your site that has not been covered, and in great detail. I believe I can say, speaking for others as well, we are very appreciative of your awesome website, help and knowledge. Thanks!
