None of those look silver... quoting from Jeff Fournier's book Ontario Municipal and Commemorative Medals, "A low grade base metal was used for the production of these medals, and was covered with a thin layer of gold-coloured wash. This quickly wore off leaving a dull silvery finish that soon turned to an unpleasantly dull shade." That sounds like your "silver" version, but perhaps this buddy doesn't know what he's talking about either.

These were issued by Shell in 1971. The Coat of Arms/Floral series were issued in 1967 and they also issued an Explorers of Canada series in the early '70s.

Thanks chequer, but they weren't my coins, (by the way, they should be called medallions). It really seems like you got it summarized to a 'T' however.
It seems like the not only has the mood of this thread has really taken a turn to somewhere where I'm not prepared to participate in, but its hard getting closure.
I'm done with this one.! (I don't even like the things anyway)

I remember those tokens and I collected the Province ones. Power player stamps were like little hockey cards right? Wow That's a real flash back.

Hi Malissadawn, sorry if you took any offense to my previous comment, these seem to be very collectable, and funnything enough, I just saw an example of a complete set on display at the annual Sherway Gardens antique fair, last week.
. Are the ones you have 'toned' like the examples we saw on this thread as well? The ones I saw at the show, still have some luster to them

Hi Dollar, I took no offense at all to anything you have said. I just meant I realize that these medallions can "ugly" up pretty quick but I really like them anyway. As for the ones I have. Mine have no luster or plating left at all. I actually didnt realize that they started out plated until I saw this thread. lol mine are a nice even shade of gray. :)
But in Canada I havent seen very many coin/token/medallion sets that commemorate historical people so I like them.

I wonder if a person could make these look better again by applying gold leaf or something.

"Power player stamps were like little hockey cards right?"

Yes. They were paper and given to you at Esso, 6 to a pack. There was also a cardboard-covered album for a pittance, or you could upgrade to the deluxe hardcovered dustjacketed album.
