I basically know nothing about Morgans, so I studied a few at Heritage to learn something. Just a quick comparo between this coin and what I saw. For starters, what is up with that 3? Yeah--obviously a bad copy.

If you check a sellers feedback it warns you about what they sell. This seller had 4 buyers that suspected fake coins.

Well, Morgans are still technically legal tender. Maybe the US would start to care about the forgeries if we started spending the glut of counterfeit Morgans.

Well they might care, but the person they would be going after and putting in jail would be you not the guy making them because he is not violating the law to make them because he is not in a location covered by US jurisdiction. He is also not breaking the law sending them here. The person IMPORTING into this country IS violating the law but what they are doing is not a felony. But if you SPEND them then you are committing a federal crime of knowingly passing counterfeit money and you HAVE committed a felony for which YOU can do serious time. I think I'd rather try and get their attention in other ways :)

Just FYI: The US Secret Service is who you report counterfeiting to. (They were very helpful and courteous when I had to report a fake 1992 No D Lincoln Cent.)A Google search for "reporting counterfeit currency" works perfectly. Many large cities also have local Secret Service offices. We all have to stop counterfeiting whenever and whereever we can.

There's a ton of Morgan replicas up on ebay as we speak, 5 pages worth! Many of them look suspiciously similar, except for the date- a dark gray EF. Look at my pics. They're all coming from China or Hong Kong. I guess it's ok to make them as long as it's clear they're copies. It's just that it's too easy for people to try to pass them off as real. I'm sure there's international laws against replicating a country's currency, even antiquated ones. It's just that it's probably near impossible to track them down from here. Ron

After several persuading talks with the seller..... If you'll notice, his bogus listings were removed. I have a sort of threat that was emailed to me do to his loss, though if it continues, the authorities will be notified. Just to let you know, that the current listing appears resolved, until he tries to list them under another name.
