Well, we are only looking a low quality pictures of one side. At best we're making educated guesses with only half of the information. Obviously, the coins have eye appeal and luster. While the TPG's are far from perfect, they do a decent job overall IMO. While I have many slabbed coins, I've never been a "slab collector". I like to touch and feel the actual coin - some sort of coin psychoses I reckon. LOL Just remember, the TPG's exist for only one reason - TO MAKE MONEY. And they will gladly take it in spades. They have simply created a form of legalized gambling and it's just as addictive as any casino. No matter - THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS. |

What's the point of buying cheaper lower slabbed coins for reference if this is what you get. I know you guys preach buy the coin not the slab and I know you are right. PCGS make mistakes, with so many coins to grade it's going to happen, but even I wouldn't submit one like these. As my collecting desires have changed ( mostly upgrade like others), I really want to complete a Lincoln set of my own submissions. Before you say anything, I know it will cost more but the satisfaction will be the fact that I chose the coins. That's harder to do. Any coin with one of those types of gashes I immediately move on. Would it be better when PCGS sees one of these coins to go ahead and purchase it and get it out of the system. I know eye appeal is a driving factor but at some point technical grades should kick in? Thoughts on this!

Look , you not only have to pay for submissions but you get your coins from OBW rolls ; They are not cheap anymore . So you want a complete MS-67 set of your own submissions fine break a leg . While others are enjoying just CRH'ing and pulling nice coins at face .  |

The fact of the matter is this...like any publicly traded corporation, they are in it for profits.
They over time have/will relax their grading slightly so that you will resubmit your coins just to try and keep your former top pop in the top pop position. (This is why the older holders fetch a premium).
Not only do they want to slab the coin, but also want you to resubmit it repeatedly.
By placing a premium on coins minted in the bazillions, it gets you to gamble 40ish dollars on a coin that is more than likely worth less than that.
This is why you're better off sticking to non modern coins honestly. Plus zincolns have proven to not hold up over time... pretty sure the first ms70 Lincoln ever ended up getting a zinc rot spot.

Also, personally, I like their photography, it is a bonus...most of us gamble with them, but it is best to learn grading first, so that we can lean the gambling more into our favor. Even the pros make mistakes at the casino.

Otherwise, it will be a very expensive proposition. Think of it this way -the money you spend on grading fees could be diverted into buying higher grade coins instead. |

A millionaire (lol) it took me twenty years to make a million dollars (that's 50,000 a year for reference) Everyone of you on here are trying to help me save money, grade coins, don't submit common dates and many more excellent points that I should heed. I have reached early social security age and time realistically is not on my side. Most members have stated emphatically that they collect for the enjoyment. I am enjoying this. I plan to only submit coins in the future that I think are ms-67. Out of 12 that I submitted 11 were ms-66. Although my new original goal was to complete a set from 1935 to 2021 of ms-66 and dates before that ms-63 red browm. Some key dates will have to be XF to AU-58. It was stated often to purchase needed coins already slabbed. I am told to submit older wheats or purchase already done for me. I really hope several of you read this and correct anything that doesn't make sense. In my situation I have NO, I repeat, NO LCD anywhere near me that could possibly help me. Options are to travel to coin shows. That would be a day for travel, a day for a show, and a day back home. This only gets me to a show with no guarantee of any coin I need. This leaves me with the dreaded option of ebay. Most of you say just buy needed coins on ebay and yes I will pay anywhere from 2 to 5 dollars less than the submission price. When I can purchase a roll of bu 1952 and a roll of 1952-s for 50 dollars each it's hard to pass up. Those rolls are 100 and 180 respectively on the greysheet. I am getting these rolls in tubes made in the early 60's. Every roll so far is awesome. The thrill of possibly finding some good ones is very enjoyable. These rolls were put away before TPG'S existed. . You can't put a price on enjoyment. ( This sent with gentle effect) so nothing ugly intended. Have you guys been successful in submitting ms-67 business strikes? |

There are so many ways to enjoy this hobby, with various budgets. You found what you enjoy, and it's within your budget, so I say press on and have fun!
Sounds like you're retired. As to coin shows; you are a 3 hour drive from New Orleans. Even closer to other large cities. Consider making a road trip to a coin show somewhere.
I too am retired. I've made a few 3 hour drives to coin shows, making them a mini-vacation. It's not that expensive. I've learned a lot, met nice people, saw a lot of great coins and currency, and had a good time.
All those shows had dealers selling Lincolns, raw and slabbed. The show will probably have a list of dealers attending, so you could research them before going. Who knows? You might find some besides Lincolns that catches your eye!
