lighting is washing out some of the areas. never use overhead light to try and reduce that. if thats not it then maybe lean the coin and you camera until the glare is removed. just make sure you get a direct on photo though. sometimes its not easy. I split the these into two designations. FT (full torch, vertical bands) & FB (Full bands, horizontal bands.

in you case looks like its a FT/FB

as for grade the polish lines dont bother me nor will it effect grade but I think the rims on both sides could be scratched up which could affect grade and maybe lower it to MS63 from what looks like a possible 64 or even 65

The reverse rims have the same die polishing lines. That is possible right? They match up to the lines in the fields and on the devices.

I have been trying to figure out what set up to get for pictures.
Without a computer I am looking for something that I can use for multiple uses.
1) coin scope for searching and grading
2) decent camera and lighting for here and ebay
3) Wi-Fi capable so it's easy to send to a phone or online
4) budget around $100 -$150

@Captain: Sorry I do not think your coin qualify for FB (at least from your photos)

Second, if you are lucky with this budget you will have, but hard. Only the micro (mini) for phone lens (an very modest one) 30 bucks.

it looks like those reverse lines appear within some of the leaves, which is odd

Not worried about this making full bands. In hand there is no question other then my photos being very 'questionable' lol!

The lines are a mystery to me. This coin came from a mint set. They are on the rim, fields, and devices. I assumed they were die polishing lines but I do not know if that is possible on rims and devices. They are very consistent from one end of the coin to the other and cover 70% of the coin.

Yeah, both bands are rounded like that. The picture flattened them out a bit. They are full. In your photo tho the torch lines look broken by scratches.

you are correct and the reason why silviosi's coin would not be FT. it would however qualify for FB designation.

i have no doubt that the coin would grade that even if with only small slice we see. my comment to captainkurt was to bring to light that there is a difference between FB and FT and the one you posted would pull an FB designation and not a FT due to the nicks across the verticles. based on the photos his coin would be both

I put slice because the photos are to big to drop at 300kb. This one is also posted on PCGS

I was aware of the ft and fb designations but I had to go back and read them now that I saw your PCGS one. To clarify PCGS doesn't require full torch to receive and fb designation. It is unclear to me if NGC gives the fb designation to Roosevelt's. I do see they give full torch designation if both the bands and torch lines are unbroken. Very interesting! Now that I know this I need to go back to the LCS where I found some really nice silver Roosevelt's that just missed my ft requirements but would get fb from PCGS. Plus go back through all my Roosevelt's and relabel them as I was not splitting the designations.

IMO opinion ANACS give the both designations. IMO normally all TPG must give. Before to send to any TPG for designations, me I like to slab the varieties with VSS.

good idea.

most collectors have no idea that FB and FT are two different designations. maybe because if you look at PCGS pricing they only list FB and there is no mention of pricing for FT or for Both. so what is it PCGS? Do they only price out FB or does FB include FT and/or Both designations in the same price? as we've seen, you can have FT and not FB or vice versa. if you look at Numismedia pricing they have an completely different sheet for FT but not FB.

so confusing

From what I can tell, NGC's full torch requires the bands to be full as well.

It is unclear if that is the case with PCGS to receive full torch.

Numismedia has a separate price sheet for full band not full torch just to clarify for everyone.

Pricing? Who knows. Take the people who chisel lines between bands, NGC's proof like and deep proof like, Confusion on pricing, difficulty in finds some years at all, you get an idea why collectors are not jumping in to collect them.

Still, for moderns I am having a great time looking for them. It really seems like most are not looking for them, including LCS. It's a fun cherry pick! At $.50 - $1 per coin (even mint wrapped) it's great. Do I think I'll get $10-$20 for them, no,
Possible investment for the future! Just look at the prices jumping the last three years on modern coinage. Moderns will have have their day!
