Liberty 1804 silver dollar ... Well this has been an EXCITING weekend. My husband and I are treasure hunters when it comes to old rare coins. We have originals and fakes all together, "BUT" in the flow of our hunt... we believe that we found a REAL 1804! I have both fake and believed to be real 1804. Where am I suppose to go to authenticate it? I live ij shady city when it comes to coin dealing so I don't trust San Francisco dealers. They almost always attempt the swindle! Any suggestions?

Based on your description I would say "most likely" real. But as is always the case , pictures needed to verify.

Suggestions:
1.) post pictures so we can tell you why the coin isn't real
2.) waste your money and send it to PCGS and let them tell you why it isn't real.

Not sure the falling down laughing emojis were the most welcoming.

I'm guessing this person, like many one and done posters, is waiting for a facebook/twitter type of response alerting them that discussion is taking place on their post.

I suppose followup is unnecessary. We all know it's fake.

I'm not part of the welcoming committee.
Why should the "OP" be taken seriously? He/she was given ample time to respond.

Technically, it could be real.

Yes there is a just the tiniest chance it could be real. There are no records of how many type I 1804 were struck, and there are definitely no records of how many clandestine Type II and II 1804 dollars were made. For almost a hundred years everyone was sure all the 1804 dollars were known, until the King of Siam set turned up in 1962. There are contemporary stories about how at least one Type II dollar was sent overseas before the Mint rounded them up. If that is true, it has never resurfaced.
