There's alot of strange and injured coins offered by that seller. Hard telling what's goin on there.

That 1849 Half Cent isn't to bad other than the major rim damage. It actually looks like it has decent details.

That first one is down right awful. How do you call 2/3 of a coin in good condition?

I can't imagine the damage being anything other than contemporary, and as such it has a certain fascination for me. What sort of horrible accident would befall a coin, in pre-Industrial America, to cause such a thing? It would make an interesting study, trying to determine the path that coin took to its' fate.

At least he's not trying to sell it as a "rare mint error."

The damage must be deliberate to remove a big chunk without major damage to the rest of the surfaces.
