Quote: I don't know why, but I have never been able to sell or trade for that matter anything I have. I just can't seem to let go.
And your not the only one. I've been coin collecting and several other items, for well over 60 years. So far have never sold anything. Sure would like to start cleaning house but now to old and lazy to get rid of anything. Still have the first coin in my collection.

All I have sold are 14 40% silver JFKs and 3 common worn merc dimes that I found while roll hunting. No regrets, I got $35 for them.

I have never sold anything, but I did trade some 40% silver Kennedy half-dollars for some Franklin half-dollars. No regrets here, either!

I have yet to sell a coin but I am really excited about selling my first coin. The reason being is that I will buy more coins. It is like buying my first house. I sold it, and bought three more, etc... Constantly improving my collection.

Never sold anything.......but I've "gifted" things.....and I gotta say...... THAT was even painful....! The gifts were sometimes fairly appreciated, but.....it seemed to "hurt me" to part with any coin each and every time. On one hand I get enjoyment from that.....but......it's hard !... And yes.......they WILL GO WITH ME WHEN I DIE !...... .....just kiddin'....err....welllll.....

Eaglefoot, that reminds me of the wealthy man who wanted to take it all with him. So he gave $1M to his pastor and told him to put it in his casket. He did the same with his accountant and attorney.
Years later, after the wealthy man's funeral, the three of them got together for coffee. That Pastor said, "I have a confession, I kept 1/4 of the money for our church, we really needed it, please forgive me." The accountant admitted that he kept 1/2 of it for purely selfish reasons. The Attorney looked at both them and just shook his head. He said, "I can't believe you two, keeping some of his money. I put a check in the casket for the full $1M."

I was forced into a financial corner last year, and had to liquidate pretty much everything of any value in my collection. Each and every sale was painful, because I collect individual coins for their personal appeal rather than towards some set goal. If I had to choose the one that hurt the most, though, I think it would have to be the 1818 Large Cent: I had wanted an 1818 N-10 from the moment I first knew of them.

Sold a 1921 Walker years ago that should have gotten a lot more money. Also a 1928 Funnyback $1 note with a noticeable misalignment error. I bought it cheap and made money but wish I had just kept it.
Other than that I usually regret NOT selling things when they are really hot. Have a bad habit of holding things too long.

Selling all my ASE on E-bay when we lost power here for a month due to an ice storm. panicked and sold about 60 oz Silver and my 2006 ASE set. Thought we would never see electricity again so I dumped it all to help the family out. Glad I did but never replaced the money for my coins, That went to mommy and Dawson for food and fuel for the generators. darn Ice Storms.

I've "gifted" things.....and I gotta say......THAT was even painful Just yesterday was my step daughters 21st birthday so for her gift I thought a 1921 P UNC Morgan in a round airtight was the appropriate gift for the occasion.

Oh no SuperDave, not the 1818 Sorry about your loss, wasn't that a James Garcia(EarlyUS) purchase? As for me, I did sell some stuff in my early 20s that I accumulated as a kid, I really regretted that for a while. However, I had most of the rest of my collection stolen in the process of moving to St. Louis several years ago so I guess it was a good thing that I did sell them when I did. Of course, the almost useless St Louis PD only returned the least valuable stuff to me, claiming that nothing else was recovered when I had detective statements to the contrary. I had always felt that my evidence/collection was intentionally "lost" . Naturally, that theft turned into my current adult affliction/addiction with a much higher budget so without the theft, I might not be currently collecting in the manner that I do or not even actively collecting at all. I was recently somewhat vindicated in my thinking when a story broke over the summer about how the STLPD was towing cars and then "losing" them and also cash seizures came up missing from the evidence room as well. Several top-level cops, including the Chief of Police, were either fired or resigned in the wake of the scandals. Of course, this was in addition to the illegal seizure/usage of World Series tickets in 2006 from scalpers and even people just trying to get face value- the cops that took the tickets went to the games with their buddies and then returned the used tickets to evidence As for now, the only coins I sell are ones that I purchase strictly for resale or I purchase upgrades for my collection and then sell the old coins.
