Hard to tell with the obverse picture, but the serifs of the E's and the F seem to be consistent with a genuine example as does the upright of the 5 being centered over the ball. I'd like to see better closeups of those obverse details and a big clear reverse pic as well.

Knowing what I've seen of PGA's grading, they probably have it graded anywhere from PR65-67. It looks like it may have been wiped or cleaned. There are fine lines visible in the field. Also, something looks a little off with the lower loop of the 6.

In my opinion the PGA holder does not add anything over a raw coin. If you can post full images of obverse and reverse that would be helpful. If I owned the coin I would sent to PCGS or NGC and get it into a respected slab.

On quick glance it looks different in several areas comparing to a genuine example.

PGA out of Plano Texas is not currently considered one of the trustworthy graders such as PCGS, NGC, and Anacs. https://www.precisegradingauthentic...com/services

Value depends on grade, in a NGC graded holder and authentic it would have a value shown here, certainly worthwhile to regrade but may not be authentic. https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-explor...c-pf/?des=pf

The date looks off so I'm going to say it's fake. I'd return it if I could, as breaking it out of the slab to send in to PCGS/NGC/ANACS would certainly void any chance of returning it.

This will be interesting to see better photos. While some of the details are tough to see in the pic provided, it looks to have the correct lettering style in "OF".

That said, this coin appears to be cleaned regardless of real or not.

Please post more pictures......if genuine, it is valuable (very valuable) even if cleaned.

Here is my genuine example of the whole obverse.

From all I can see it's worth sending to a major TPG, but certainly at least a cheap round trip to ANACS.

This looks promising!

Send it in to a real TPG.

Also curious was you paid.

First things first: match it up to known Snow variety examples; Datadragon's pictures are of two completely different dies, and the coin to the left looks like it is a business strike.

Just because it is in a questionable TPG does not mean it is fake. Suggest the OP post some more pictures on this thread and let us help before he commits any knee jerk reaction. If he cares to reveal the sales price that may also be a clue.

The 6 on the date looks very suspect to me. Notice how it is much thicker and the bottom part of the 6 where it loops to the "spine" of the number goes upward....Like a modified 8 in 1858. In Rick Snow's photo of a genuine coin, the loop moves downward. You can also use PCGS price guide as an example; Just click on the PCGS # to the left of the the date collumn. Photos will show the way an authentic 6 will look like. I ran into this same issue also coming across a doctored 1858 to 1856 Flying Eagle cent. Have some experts look at it in hand before sending to NGC or PCGS because if it is NOT genuine, the grading service level for this coin will be EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE to grade an altered coin.

I would like to see a clear picture of the reverse before making a decision.
The fact that there were only about 750 minted and it is in a basement slabbers holder makes me suspicious.
