Thanks folks! Hoping for the best with this one as I feel it's got the makings for a nice grade.

Fantastic looking cent - agree that it should come back with a high grade, MS65 or better IMO. To my eye both the 0 and 4 have been re-punched, or is that a bit of MD on the 0? Also appears to have a bit of folded over Rim Fin obverse K11.

You are correct, there is a repunch on the 0 and 4. It's the 4 that is more exciting but the 0 is also there. Should have a submission ready to go on Monday so this one will meet its fate fairly soon. PCGS has knocked down their turnaround times to only about 2 months now.

The coin has come in at MS64RB. I seriously do not know how PCGS determines grades anymore, as there just isn't anything on this coin that looks like it would knock it down to a 64. Still a high grade for the variety, but just does not seem like a 64. I have never done a "reconsideration" submission, but things like this make me feel like I should be doing some.

How's the luster? Maybe that hurt it.

At 64RB this matched 3 other coins in that grade, with only a 66RD higher. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the graders let the pop reports play a role in their assigning a grade. Your coin's trueview images do show up at the top on coinfacts under red brown, which I guess could be a minor consolation. https://www.PCGS.com/coinfacts/coin...10-rb/412784

Yeah, I know it's the plate coin, and a great coin, but I struggle with seeing a coin where I see no discernible marks score at that level. And I also wonder, does it really matter who you are when you send coins in? And would they purposely hold back a normal grade for a coin if they didn't want a new top pop to show up? I don't know, and I hope those things are never done. But in the end this still looks better than pretty much any 64 I've personally handled.

Beautiful coin. Unpopular opinion here, but I'm at 64RB myself.

All opinions appreciated! But could you explain why the low grade? What about the coin drops it down? I am truly interested to know what is wrong with it. Here is a side-by-side with another PCGS graded MS64 coin.

Submitting is just a crapshoot. Always has been.

Very nice coin and RPD tropicalbats! Was it a cherrypick or did you buy it with the RPD noted?

It was a cherrypick. But I still had to pay rather a lot for it as the seller was set on it being MS65, which it clearly did not grade. The only way I would have lost on it, though, would have been if it didn't grade straight, so I'm all good even at 64.
