I'm a bit miffed. I called the Brinks depot here in Orlando and the lady told me that they received the new pennies (on 3/13) and to tell my bank to special order them. So I call two banks and ask about them ordering the pennies, and they tell me that I need to order them on the Mint's website. Uh, no! Not paying $13 for two rolls. I called back the Brinks lady, explaining this, and she has not returned my call. Why so much bureaucratic crap for a measly box of cents? Are they scared I'll make a profit? I would love to get a box just to trade some for D-mint rolls. WHERE'S MY BAILOUT?!

I wouldn't pay that price from the mint either. I bought a few rolls of the nickels back then when they changed to the new designs. Won't do that again. Believe it or not I have yet to see a 2008 cent in circulation.

I called Brinks (Charlotte) and they have them and will be shipping them this week. No guarantees however. If the bank orders pennies, they may get new or old. I guess that also means you might get mixed rolls.

Fatcat,
I received one cent from a local pizza place. The bad thing about it is I didn't even notice it until I arrived back at home and emptied out my pockets. I would have asked for all of them if I had known. Oh well...I will run across more someother time.

I am in Florida and the bank didn't have them yet. I wonder why people are buying the rolls on e-bay for like $10.00 plus. I will just get them face value as soon as my bank gets them.

People just can't seem to wait, or think they will be low mintages.
From the US Mint web site Jan-Feb 2009 mintages:
Cent Philly- 342 Million Denver- 194 Million
These are NOT low mintages for any coin, though if this is all they make of the 1st design, it would seem to be low by historical standards for the cent. You figure they make 1 billion cents (or more) each year and they need to divide that by 2 mint marks and four designs= 125 million of each design and mint mark. Numbers above are way above that mark. These will be "commons". It looks like they are heading towards 2 billion or more of these Lincoln cents.

Quote: You figure they make 1 billion cents (or more) each year Way more than than that, 2008 had a total mintage of 5.4 billion and 2007 had a mintage of 7.4 billion so the 2009s are on pace to have 1/3-1/2 the numbers of recent mintages.

You have those flipped around, the P cent is the lower mintage.

Talked to my bank manager today and she said that she can't order them from her supplier which is the federal bank in Chicago because they said they are over stocked with cents and have no plane on ordering them from the U.S.Mint . Does that mean that the entire East Coast won't be getting any any time soon? John1
