possible DDD, but otherwise looks normal. Also please try to refrain from posting screen shots of your scope - they are next to if not impossible to see details due to the heavy pixilation. just post up the actual image. |

You guys don't think that the Liberty bears a passing resemblance to Wexler 1981-D WDDO-001? https://doubleddie.com/828760.htmlI'm not saying it's a dead lock, but the possibility needs to be investigated. btw, the new microscope pictures with the memory card vs. photo-of-a-screen are like 10000% better. =) |

I just checked the link, and to be honest I would not have thought for a second that that is a doubled die if I came across one roll searching. CC site pics are a bit better but still  VV has no listing. John1  Edited by John1

Honestly, I thought the same thing. But I have only been doing this for six weeks. The Cherrypicker FS varieties seem to be clear, but the more subtle stuff like "light spread" and "extra width" are kinda lost on me. I don't know that I could pick it out on a pristine coin, let alone a circulated one.
Here, at least I can see an edge on B and R, even if I would have been unsure of the cause.

This coin do not fit the narrative of the 1981-D WDDO-001.

@John1 @Brandmeister, @Brandmeister thank you for posting that wexler's DDO and I do believe there is a resemblance especially with the B I think my coin just has more dyed deterioration but the humps on the B have that secondary. But my next question is for Brandmeister and John let's just say it's a case of dye deterioration and Machine Doubling how does it get the separation and the humps that go all the way over at the beginning of each letter because Machine Doubling don't do that, the vertical lines are pointing to the separation that I see.  |

@Cujohn There's a reason why the mint marks don't match up because it is not the wexler's doubled die but there are other dyes with very similar characteristics and it is not Die Deterioration, but it is more than likely due to poor quality control because all three examples at PCGS has in their top grade examples have all the same characteristics that first one being the wexler's doubled die but not graded as such The next two examples are the one I have... They are not graded as doubled die just putting that out there but the pictures clearly show it and obviously with a grade they received it wouldn't be Die Deterioration.. Look up 1981-D 1C, RD (Regular Strike) |

I do see some extra thickness on the vertical parts of LIBERTY.
The upper and lower "holes" of the B are smaller than a normal cent.
IMHO, the question is whether it would be too minor to list.
EDIT: Your light source seems to be coming from K3 in your latest images, which are nice by the way. Try the light source coming from above (K12-ish) to see if the separation/notching on the tops of LIBERTY that you are seeing shows up any better.

@Petespockets55 Well the thing is wexler's has a version of this that is listed that is almost The same as this one but they are actually different dyes and you can see this on the PCGS website I'll post the pictures I'm talking about here . These are not my pictures. The first one of these I'm posting is from PCGS and although they didn't grade this one as a double die this is the one that wexler's is referring to through their attribution. And the second picture is not my coin but the same die was used. Both coins depict very similar doubling I believe it's due to poor quality control so I don't think there's any premium in my coin cuz I actually found another one just like it already. 81 for Denver was just a bad year I guess just sloppy   |
