Brandmeister, you've been trying very hard and that's good but that's a proof DDO and the OP's is a business strike. There is no doubled die here. Keep at it though, you are doing well.

I agree with -makecents-. It's not a DDO. Maybe a hit on the D of GOD.

Positive case: Both also have a blob inside the left arm of W. A little curve to the bottom of wE. Some blobiness to the top of S in Trust. Those curved tops to G and O to the NE (although that could very well be glare). Also a little something on the left edge and outer belly of 5.
Negative case: no full elf shoe wE, no horns on B,E,R. Those interior edges and outside right edges could be MD. Possibly also MD on the tips of IN. 5 could also be a little push doubling.

Ok, then there's the knowledge I can extract from this particular coin. How can you tell it's a business strike vs. a circulated proof at this age of coin? It's 66 years old, so what's the clue? Worth pointing out: I was typing and searching as you reached your conclusion. Just so you don't think I was ignoring you.

Well sure, those are top grade coins. I'm talking about impaired proofs that have been circulated. I've found proof nickels while CRH. Obvious because they were newer, but if they had seen use over their lifetimes, and didn't have the S mint mark, I don't know that I could pick them out so easily. From the following older thread, I gather that you can pick out an impaired proof cent by the squared rim and the fields. http://goccf.com/t/428020

You're being silly, keep studying, you need more time. There are MANY things that intelligence does not take care of, some things just take time, experience.

I gotta be honest, I'm staring at the post with the side-by-side clean proof, MS uncirculated, impaired proof. If he hadn't spelled out which one was which, and then pulled the good proof, I don't know that I could immediately distinguish the remaining two coins. http://goccf.com/t/333750

Brand, I wish I could help you, but it is apparent that I cannot. I wish you the best.

When I read your statement, my tiny little brain finally kicked into gear. This is on all 57's, all mints and proofs. Sorry I did not put two and two together sooner, my grey matter is not what it used to be. It is thought by some to be Master Die Doubling.
